Matthew Lillard is an actor, comedian, director, and producer known for his manye performances across film, television, and animation. His acting career began with a role as an extra in Ghoulies 3: Ghoulies Go to College (1991) and as the MC of Nickelodeon’s SK8-TV (1989).

Lillard’s breakout came with Serial Mom (1994), playing Chip Sutphin, followed by roles in Hackers (1995) as Emmanuel “Cereal Killer” Goldstein and Scream (1996) as Stu Macher. He gained further acclaim for SLC Punk! (1998) as Stevo and She’s All That (1999) as Brock Hudson.

Lillard is iconic as Shaggy Rogers in the live-action Scooby-Doo (2002) and Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed (2004), later voicing Shaggy in animated series and films since 2009. Other notable film credits include Thirteen Ghosts (2001), Without a Paddle (2004), The Descendants (2011), and Trouble with the Curve (2012).

In 2023, Lillard earned renewed recognition as William Afton in Five Nights at Freddy’s, a film that achieved the third-highest domestic box office opening for a horror movie. Matthew recently wrapped filming on the sequel, releasing in December of 2025. “Cuz let’s face it, baby, these days… ya gotta have a sequel!”

On television, he portrayed FBI agent Luke Goshen in Bosch (2016) and appeared in House (2011) and Twin Peaks: The Return (2017) among other shows.
